Disce (pronounced ‘disc’) comes from the Latin word “to learn”. We believe that people can learn to be more emotionally resilient and learn to have a resilient mindset to navigate through life’s challenges, and live more enriching lives.

We provide care and support to people from all walks of life, and assist with a range of life issues. We are empathic, compassionate and engaging, and our service delivery is based on the latest research and industry best practice.

John Shin - Director & Principal Psychologist |

BSc - Psych; PGDip - Psych; MPsych (Org); MAPS

John is a passionate psychologist with over 10 years experience providing individual counselling, training and consulting services to organisations. He is also a Board-approved supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia, and has provided clinical training and supervision to provisional psychologists.

His overall aim is to empower clients with practical skills and strategies to develop emotional resilience leading to enriching lives. He mainly works with people 16 years and above, and specialises in the areas of anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, chronic pain management, relationship difficulties, men’s health, career difficulties, work stress and performance coaching. He also has a particular interest in multicultural mental health, and is fluent in both English and Korean.

His therapeutic approach is predominantly within Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
